Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information
Where are duckfeet® made?

duckfeet® are designed in Denmark and all materials are sourced within EU. Our shoes are  hand crafted in Poland from German  terracare®  leather and Italian crepe soles.

What is the sole made of?

duckfeet® are soled with 100 % natural latex crepe rubber from hevea brasiliensis and offers durable shock absorption. The natural rubber grips well in most surfaces even without a rough tread pattern, but please always use caution on icy surfaces and solvents. Please visit Care in our FAQ section, for details on how to care for the outsoles. (You may notice a range of coloration on the sole as each pair is handcrafted and variations occur naturally.)

What is the lining made of?

Winter models, like the Århus and Odense, are lined with 100% premium European sheep wool for added warmth and comfort. The soft wool offers cushioning and covers the interior top to bottom all the way to the toe. This lining is nonremovable.

We offer wool insoles that can be added to most duckfeet® models for extra warmth and cushioning.

duckfeet® box and leather handle

duckfeet® shoe boxes are made from recycled cardboard.

duckfeet® shoe boxes use a recycled piece of scrap leather as the box handle. The leather handle color does not reflect the color of the product in the box. The label should always be consulted for product color, as well as the product in the box itself.

Fit and Comfort
How do duckfeet® fit?

duckfeet® have a wide toe box and use European sizes. Please visit our Size Chart for more information and to determine your size or contact us. We will do our best to help guide you in the sizing process.

Do duckfeet® have arch support?

duckfeet® have a neutral leather footbed without any inherent arch support. Because it’s leather, the footbed will form to the footprint of the wearer over time. If support is desired, the footbed is perfect for accommodating most insoles as there is no built-in support to compete with an insert/insole. Note that the leather insole is not designed to be removed.

The soles are very hard. What can I do to soften them?

The soles of your duckfeet® are made of natural crepe rubber. Natural rubber can become hard at low temperatures, but this can be avoided by storing the shoes at a temperature of between 20-25 °C (66–76 °F).

You may also find that natural rubber soles are hard and inflexible if they have been left in a cold room, or during shipping. If your soles have become hard, you can easily regain the softness. We recommend you to place your duckfeet® in a warm place in your house. You can also put your duckfeet® in the oven at 50 °C (122 °F) for 20-30 minutes.

Are duckfeet® waterproof or water-resistant?

All duckfeet® leathers are naturally water-resistant and will keep most moisture out. However, water stains can occur after heavy saturation. If you notice water stains, take a cloth and lightly damp the entire shoe; let dry completely. Leather cream may be applied to help increase water resistance and will also help keep them in tip-top shape.

The leather is stiff; does it stretch or get softer?

duckfeet® are made with high quality full-grain  terracare® leather. The styles made with our butter soft pebbled Hillcrest leather are soft right out of the box and should require no break-in effort. The styles with smooth surface are made with our original Pampas leather. This leather is strong and durable and can feel stiff at first—don’t worry! duckfeet® break in faster than you’d expect. This break-in process is a hallmark of genuine leather. With a little bit of love, they will mold perfectly to your foot shape and movements ensuring your pair is truly unique.  Leather cream  can expedite

Care and Maintenance
How do I care for my duckfeet®?

A quick wipe with a damp cloth or a small application of leather cream often does the trick. Please visit Care in our FAQ-section  for more information.

Caring for the crepe sole

Crepe rubber soles can become hard when stored at low temperatures. We recommend storing your duckfeet® in an environment between 20-25 °C (66–76 °F). If the soles become hard, you can place the shoes inside for a period of time until the crepe rubber is soft again. You can also put your duckfeet® in the oven at 50 °C (122 °F) for 20-30 minutes, or leave them in at a sunny window with the sole towards to sun until the sole softens.

Do not leave in direct sunlight for a long time or on hot a hot surface. Crepe will soften and become sticky.

Since the natural crepe rubber is untreated, avoid contact with solvents because such substances may dissolve the rubber.
